Carlene has been dedicated to the development of and advocacy for English Language Learners since her professional teaching career began in Beijing, China, teaching English to university students. After returning to the states, she taught and served ELLs in Dallas ISD in grades 6 through 8, ranging from Sheltered Instruction classes to Newcomer classes. Then, Carlene transitioned to serving ELLs in a charter school setting at KIPP Dallas-Fort Worth. She served as the ESL Coordinator for their charter region. Currently, Carlene supports districts with the Bilingual/ESL team at Region 10 as an ESL/Migrant Consultant.
